WTF? Someone from Belarus just hacked my journal? Why the hell would someone hack a LIVEJOURNAL?
Crazy Baby gets really hyper then REALLY depressed when she comes down from a catnip high. Sometimes she just stares into space for long periods of time with giant eyes >.> it's cute, but I'm starting to think she has a problem.

Where's a good place to go to meet new people these days? Livejournal seems mostly dead, and I don't think anyone uses yahoo or AIM anymore. It's weird, but it seems like with all these websites to keep people connected (facebook, twitter), we just grow further apart from those we do talk to. Instead of people being interested and involved in other people's lives, they just get these tiny superficial updates that don't mean anything.

I remember the good old days of journaling, where you could meet and become really good friends with lots of really interesting people. Now it seems like no one can be bothered. It's kind of depressing.

Disability hearing tomorrow. Blah.

I was able to keep my mind off of it and the panic attacks at bay until today, when I woke up from a nightmare about it. Stupid brain.

I'm so nervous :-/ If I'm denied this time, I can't get another appeal. I have to wait a year and then re-apply and start all over again. It's taken me 5 (6?) years just to get here. I wish whoever decided these things could just live in my body for a day. It would save so much paperwork, and doctors appointments, and lawyer fees and whatnot. At least I don't have to pay him unless I win...

I GOT SORTED INTO RAVENCLAW ON POTTERMORE!!

I'm so happy >.> I was worried I'd end up a Hufflepuff or something.
If anyone has a Pottermore, my screen name is StarBlood41 if you want to add me, or email me or comment with your username and I'll add you.

Did anyone else get a disappointing wand? I'm kind of sad that I got a sycamore with a unicorn hair core :-(

Signal Boost: Return of the DDoS

For those wanting to know more about the recent DDoS attacks, yes, it looks like it was the Russian government trying to shut down the dissidents again.

As I said last time, while it's frustrating not to have access, LJ is a lot more than a social network platform. From the article:

"LiveJournal isn’t just a social network. It’s also a platform for organizing civic action. Dozens of network projects and groups mobilize people to solve specific problems — from defending the rights of political prisoners to saving endangered historic architecture in Moscow."

So while I know many are considering the move over to Dreamwidth and other such sites, supporting LJ is a way we can help support those who use it for more than a writing/roleplaying/social venue.

Also, as a FYI, LJ is giving paid users effected by the outage two weeks of paid time as compensation.

OMG the air conditioning in this hotel room is AMAZING. I think I'm just going to move in here.

Seriously, I could take all the food that's probably going bad in the fridge/freezers back home, crank the air up to high (I don't even have it all the way up!) and leave it here. They're going to have to pull me from this room kicking and screaming lol

I'd replace the TV though, and maybe add a bookshelf or two. The internet could do with some upgrading. There would also have to be cats. A home isn't a home without some cats.

WOOHOO

Since money is really tight right now with my insurance going up, I told mom I wanted a trip to the eye doctor and a cheap pair of glasses from Zenni Optical for my birthday. She made an appointment for the 10th ^_^ I'm excited! I've needed new glasses for years but my insurance doesn't cover vision. Hopefully this will help with the wonky blurred vision in my left eye.

Yes, I'm excited about this. I can't wait to get new glasses! I've had these since I was like 17.

Rob has to work 6 day weeks from now on (ugh, no extra pay for that either), so he'll probably only get my birthday off... if he's lucky. He's requesting it, but we'll see :-/ I'm not sure we'll really have any money to do anything. Mom will probably take us out to dinner or something, then we'll probably end up watching a movie at home. Oh well. We'll see!

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that I'm turning 25 in a few weeks. Where the hell did all the time go??

Mar. 20th, 2011

So I'm sitting here with a horrible stomach ache wondering what the hell is going on ...

then I remember I went back to regular milk because it's cheaper and lower in fat... and I had some with my smoothie, and with my now daily dose of hot chocolate (my new addiction) but I didn't take any lactose pills.

Cassandra, you idiot. This is why you stopped drinking milk in the first place, remember?

(side note: Damn you lactose! And damn you goats milk for being so high in saturated fat!)

Is this real life?

LOL really? This is the logo they're using for International Women's Day?

I miss this show :-(

We're babysitting our neighbor right now (he's in 1st or 2nd grade), and he's playing Lego Star Wars on the xbox, and he just said this:

"I think I just defeated Darth guy, and I'm in the Death Ball now, I think, cuz I just went down the garbage slide. In the movie Princess LAIR said "we have to save our skins!" *giggle* that's what princess Lair said."

XD cute.

Things I found while shopping

Found this at Walmart... $2.50 for the first season of 21 Jumpstreet? Destiny!

Then found this in the wine section at Meijer

This is long and random, I just had to get it out there. So, I have a LOT of books. Three large bookshelves and two tiny ones in the dining room, a large one in my bedroom, and a few boxes full of books in our storage room. My mom is trying to make me sell a bunch of them...

My name is Cassandra and I have a problem.Collapse )

I have this add-on on firefox called "Web of Trust" and it has a little circle in the corner telling you if a site is safe. People can report sites, or say they're not child friendly or phishing/fraud whatever. The weird thing is, a few livejournals are starting to show up on there. I'm pretty sure one friend's journal shouldn't be rated low for "privacy issues" and another for "vendor reliability" because you know, they're NOT A VENDOR. That's so weird.

And for randomness: this is my favorite commercial ever

Not gonna lie, I LOVED the Chrysler ad last night with Eminem. Is it going to save Detroit? Probably not. But it got people thinking about it, and I like that.

SQUEE!
This makes me so happy.
I've read every other work by Murakami available in English. *dance dance dance*

It's from a Colbert segment about the day Starbucks was closed in the morning for training or something, and how excited he was to get his coffee when it re-opened. Also, it's Colbert in the shower. Colbert in the shower.
Bill Nighy is one of my favorite actors. Any aged meat crushes aside, he's just a fabulous actor and has been in some of my favorite films... I also wanted to find a picture with his hand deformity, because I'm oddly fascinated by it.
This was a no-brainer. I love the Princess Bride, I know it by heart, and I wanted Westley to be real SO bad as a kid.
I've always really loved looking at propaganda posters, especially ones from WWII, so I was really geeked out about the Dalek one featured in the new season of Doctor Who.
As resuscitation said when choosing the icons, I'm a crazy cat lady, so I'm bound to have one or two icons of the cats, mostly to use in cat related posts or pet communities. I was trying to make an icon showing off Pig's wonky eye, but it's hard to see in such a small icon, so she just came off looking evil and I thought it was cute >.>

First game of the season, and we managed to score enough in between fights to win it 4-0. Suck on that Ducks!

Was able to watch the game in HD, and was finally able to make use of the surround sound with our amazing bose speakers (thank you dead father!). You can hear their skulls crack like it's happening right next to you. So this is why guys love their home entertainment systems!

Also, I love this commercial

Can anyone recommend a good webcomic to follow?

I accidentally purchased a comic feed reader app on the iphone and I'm looking for some more to add to it. I already have XKCD, Questionable Content, Cyanide & Happiness, Octopus Pie, Penny Arcade, and Sinfest.

Only one person will understand this...

But I would totally do Gilbert Blythe. I'd do him so hard.

Jun. 10th, 2010

This pisses me off! The parents were on 20/20 going on about how safe their daughter was. They were saying she's not allowed to walk her dog at night, but that was TOTALLY different and way more unsafe than sailing around the world alone. WTF? I mean, I hope they find the girl okay, but I think her parents are irresponsible assholes for letting her do that.

Long time no update. I've been pretty sick, so I've just been chilling on the couch reading and watching movies. I'm so excited about the new iphone!! Pre-ordering mine on Tuesday ^_^
That's about it.
Our triple-play modem (our phone and internet are connected through it) is all fucked up, and the internet goes out every five minutes, so I haven't been online. I've also been letting Rob use my laptop to play Command and Conquer so I don't see Sméagol (my computer) as much as I normally do >.> plus Rob was on vacation so we were busy. My phone has been wonky for awhile, but my contract isn't up for a month and the new phones are probably coming out in July so I'm not going to put down $199 for a phone and committing to a new contract just to be stuck with an outdated model for another 2 or 3 years.... so yea, I can't really access a lot of sites on my phone right now without it crashing :-/ and viewing that tiny ass screen all day? Not great on the eyes.

Comcast mailed us a new modem but sent the WRONG ONE. They're sending out the correct one (hopefully) tomorrow, so if I'm lucky my internet will be up and running again by Saturday and I can catch up on everything I've missed. Sorry guys!!!

LOL OMG LOVE THIS!!!

Rob should have been a blonde

Rob: You know what sucks? I went to make an omelette earlier and all the eggs we have are hardboiled.
Me: Only the ones with blue crayon on the top are hardboiled.
Rob: The blue carton? I'm pretty sure they're all blue at the top.
Me: (half asleep and annoyed) No, I MADE the damn eggs, I'm pretty sure I know which ones I fucking hardboiled.
Rob: Okay, okay!
.... a minute later I hear the sound of the fridge and him opening the egg carton trying to prove he's right. WTF?

    8 / 50 books. 16% done!
Currently Reading: The Turn of the Screw by: Henry James

★★★★★ - Fantastic novel. Very highly recommended.
★★★★☆ - Very good novel. Held my interest.
★★★☆☆ - A bad story that held my interest or a good story that didn't hold my interest.
★★☆☆☆ - Didn't hold my interest or was poorly written.
★☆☆☆☆ - Why did I even waste my time? Biggest waste of publishing money ever!

    1. Voluntary Madness by Norah Vincent
    Began: 12.29.2009
    Finished: 01.10.2010
    Rating: ★★★☆☆
Thoughts: Overall a good read, and a good glimpse at what it's like inside some of the psychiatric hospitals in the US. However, the author tended to sound very high and mighty about her own illness. She suffers from depression but is quick to point out that she's not as *annoyingly* depressed as everyone else. Her stance on psychiatric drugs is sort of shoved down your throat over and over again. We're always reminded how awful these meds are, while also blaming the turnaround rate on the lack of availability of these drugs to the mentally ill that are homeless. The sampling of hospitals is small, but she does go to hospitals on both end of the spectrum. In the end you're left wondering whether universal healthcare would help at all, since the hospitals taking care of those on medicare and medicaid seem to be such awful places.

    2. Survivors by Terry Nation
    Began: 01.06.2010
    Finished: 01.11.2010
    Rating: ★★★☆☆
Thoughts: I'm a bit bias since I watched the show before reading the book. The characters were very stereotypical, and not very diverse. The main character starts out as a pampered upper-middle class housewife, who quickly becomes a leader of her own commune. Though she believes her son is still alive, she doesn't spend a lot of time looking for, or even thinking about him. It was a quick read, but it had a hard time keeping my interest. The show fleshes out the characters and gives a bit more background on the plague that wipes out most of the planet.

    3. Am I Bovvered? The Catherine Tate Show Scripts by Catherine Tate
    Began: 01.09.2010
    Finished: 01.10.2010
    Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts: Just a collection of scripts from the Catherine Tate show. None of the Children in Need sketches are included, but I believe all the others are there. If you're a big fan of the show it's a neat thing to own, and you can find it pretty cheap on amazon marketplace (I got it for $4 including shipping).

    4. The Song of the Lioness: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce
    Began: 01.25.2010
    Finished: 01.25.2010
    Rating: ★★★★★
Thoughts: ADORED this book! toasterssaymoo recommended it ages ago but I never got around to reading it. It's a quick young-adult read with the typical plucky female heroine. But I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. I ended up reading it straight through, and immediately picked up the second book after. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I can't believe I haven't heard of Tamora Pierce before!

    5. The Song of the Lioness: In the Hands of the Goddess by Tamora Pierce
    Began: 01.25.2010
    Finished: 01.27.2010
    Rating: ★★★★★
Thoughts: Loved this one too :-) It didn't take long to get hooked on the main character, and once again it's a quick read. If I could change one thing about this book, it would be a little longer.

    6. The Song of the Lioness: The Woman Who Rides like a Man by Tamora Pierce
    Began: 01.27.2010
    Finished: 02.02.2010
    Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts: Enjoyed it, but it didn't hold my interest as much as the others. It might have been that it was in the middle, so I knew nothing would really be solved in this novel. I still enjoyed Alanna's adventures, but I was just slightly less interested in this one as opposed to the others.

    7. The Song of the Lioness: Lioness Rampant by Tamora Pierce
    Began: 02.02.2010
    Finished: 02.04.2010
    Rating: ★★★★★
Thoughts: Probably my favorite in the series, even though it didn't have enough of my favorite character. I would have proferred a longer ending.

    8. Diana's Story by Deric Longden
    Began: 02.05.2010
    Finished: 02.07.2010
    Rating: ★★★☆☆
Thoughts: This book made me want to cry. It's about a woman who suffers from M.E. (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) in the 70s and 80s when very little was known about it. She's completely bedridden, her hands claw and literally fold in on themselves and yet some doctors still seem to think she's suffering from some kind of hysteria. It's an autobiographical tale told by the husband who gave up everything he had to care for her. It certainly put me through a few emotions, from sadness and pity at Diana's plight, to laughing like crazy at the weird antics of Deric's mother. The only reason I gave this three stars was because it took awhile to get through for some reason. It just felt like it went on forever.
